Well, Flat Stanley's stay with me is drawing quickly to a close, but we had time for a couple of trips to some very interesting places -- Iceland and Argentina. It was the tale of two trips really -- we were in Iceland for 8 days, with time to explore this truly amazing island. Argentina was the exact opposite. Stanley joined me in supporting my colleagues in Latin America for a media briefing (similar to the event in Chongqing). As time was very tight, I was only in Argentina a total of 33 hours. The flights alone totalled more than 36 hours, meaning I spent more time on an airplane that on the ground in Argentina! Sometimes you can only scratch your head!
In a word, Iceland was "unique". Unlike any place I have ever seen before. Iceland is an island in the North Atlantic, just south of the Arctic circle. Like many island, Iceland was formed by volcanos -- in fact, there are several active volcanos on the island today. Stanley, Paola and I arrive on a Saturday night and noticed that, well, it wasn't really night. Because Iceland is quite far north (further north than Helsinki even), it was was very bright out. Even at midnight, it was bright! thankfully, this means good light for picture taking. Here is a link to our photo album: Iceland pics
Although this was a working trip -- we invited media from all over the world to witness the launch of a new mobile phone -- we found a few hours to see some of Iceland's amazing views. Geysirs, volcanos, thermal pools, and we even went on a whale watching expedition.
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Unlike Iceland, Stanley and I saw very little of Buenos Aires. In fact, if it wasn't for the stamp in my passport and a fridge magnet for my Mom's collection, I would have a hard time believing we were even there! But this is the reality of business trips -- long flight, busy shedule, long flight home. When people ask me "how was Argentina" I show them a book I brought home... and suggest they read it. Because, honestly, I have no idea! Stanley didn't have time to see much in Argentina... so we were only able to snap a couple of photos: Argentina pics
